A Placement Year at The Student Housing Company

We’ve asked Vidhi Panchmatia, our lovely Finance placement student to give you all the low down on what it’s like to work with us at The Student Housing Company. Vidhi is studying Accounting For Management BSc at Aston University.

Vidhi Panchmatia

Well… what started as a three-month internship has now turned into a placement year. I applied to The Student Housing Company because it’s an industry which I can relate to, being a student and having lived in one of the residences, I am able to give my opinion and ideas. Not only that, my role as a finance intern relates to my degree, which is always useful!

Knowing what you want to do when you graduate can be tough… I knew I wanted to work in finance but didn’t realise how big the sector really is! Working at The Student Housing Company, I was given the opportunity to work my way through the finance department, so far, I’ve been in accounts receivable, accounts payable and got to oversee some accounting. This has lead me in a good direction to know more about what I want to do in the future. I’ve already learnt so much in such little time and my journey here has only just begun.

It’s not just work here at The Student Housing Company, we get to do some fun stuff too. During my internship I have been lucky enough to visit some of the sites, including Bentley House (where I lived in my second year of uni). This was such a lovely experience, and it was great to see how things work on the other end. Bentley House opened in 2017, so my year were the lucky ones to first live in the residence. It’s a modern building with great facilities including plenty of common areas and a gym. There’s always something going on at Bentley, whether it’s a festival or a movie night. For me, the best thing about living at Bentley were the staff. The staff there are amazing, so welcoming and helpful. They’re more like your friends as opposed to the people that work there. I know for sure that I will be living at Bentley house again, in my final year.

Overall, my experience at The Student Housing Company so far has been enjoyable and I look forward to the months ahead! It has given me a huge insight into the working world and most importantly created a career path for me.
